Driving with a TLC license can be complicated. There are many rules and regulations to follow, not to mention keeping up-to-date documents, car maintenance, and more. While GetCars covers the costs and work for most of these items as they relate to your TLC rental, it’s important for drivers to stay informed. Whether you’re driving for Uber, Lyft, Gett, or someone else, there’s a lot that new drivers and seasoned drivers need to know.
To drive with GetCars, you must be at least 21 years old, have a valid driver’s license, a New York TLC license, and proof of your address. Additionally, we require that drivers have some experience driving in New York City.

Reserving your TLC rental is as simple as swipe, click, go! Once you’ve found a car you want, just click the reserve button and you’ll be on your way to driving.
Typically, a driver can go from reserving a vehicle to driving all in one day. However, this process can take a little longer depending on how prepared a driver is.
There is a minimum rental period of 4 weeks. You also must notify us 1 week (7 days) prior to turning in your vehicle.
GetCars has partnerships with Uber, Lyft, Via and Better Ride, which makes working with them extremely easy.
To sign up with any of the leading ride-sharing services, you need simply to download their app, follow the signup process, and get started. Our team will even help you get settled.
No; street hail service is strictly forbidden according to TLC rules. Performing any street hails may result in a hefty fine by the TLC or other consequences, which the driver would be entirely responsible for.
As long as you’ve paid your weekly rent, your rental cars is yours to do with as you wish. You keep it 24/7 and can do whatever you need; run errands, pick up your kids, etc.
When your vehicle requires routine maintenance, checkups, or to inspect malfunctions or mechanical problems, bring it to the Repair Shop located at 23-12 38th Ave in Long Island City, NY 11101 between 8:00am and 7:00pm. For regular TLC inspections, the car should be brought to the TLC Woodside location.
GetCars requires that you provide one week’s advanced notice if you wish to return your rental. At that time, you need simply to bring the car in for a final inspection to ensure there’s no damage or missing parts, and sign an agreement saying that your rental period is to be ended.
For your weekly rental payments, we accept bank deposits, QuickPay, and ACH payments.
As you have your TLC rental 24/7, you’re responsible for keeping watch of the check engine light, headlights, and other such alerts. You’re also responsible for checking engine oil, transmission oil, and other fluids. GetCars covers all maintenance costs associated with normal use.
Should any of the maintenance alerts or notifications be on, or if there’s a problem with a primary function of your TLC rental, you should bring it to the Repair Shop located at 23-12 38th Ave in Long Island City, NY 11101 between 8:00am and 7:00pm.
If you get a flat tire while on the road, inform your account manager right away so they can have a replacement brought to you and installed.
No matter what the reason, you must report any and all tickets to your account manager as soon as you receive it. GetCars will deduct the cost of the ticket from your paycheck, and additional fees will be added if you’ve delayed in reporting the ticket.
Regardless of whose fault the accident, the police MUST be called to address it. Inform your account manager so that the proper procedures are followed and ensure that an honest account is reported to the NYPD officer(s). If the accident is determined by NYPD and insurance to be your fault, you’ll be expected to cover any costs associated with the repair(s).
Drivers who don’t put down a deposit are required to partner their Uber account with the GetCars Uber Fleet account. Earnings are viewable through Uber, as well as the weekly rent deduction and any other payments or costs.
You are the only person permitted to drive your rental car. No one else may sit in the driver’s seat, without exception.
Unlike other rental agencies, GetCars uses pricing that’s based on both the vehicle and you. You should be rewarded for having a lot of experience or having few or no accidents or points on record. GetCars agrees.
